SUMMARY
Dr. Steve Gibson
Work Group Leader – Laboratory Accreditation Work Group
Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ)
Steve has been with TCEQ since 1998 and performed accreditation and quality
system audits at federal, state, municipal, academic, and commercial
laboratories providing regulatory and ambient monitoring data directly and
indirectly to TCEQ.
Prior to joining TCEQ, Steve worked 17 years at Radian Corporation in Austin at
its in-house environmental laboratory that provided analytical services to that
engineering firm. He then spent one year at the Texas Department of Health doing
audits related to controlling toxic substances.
Steve has a B.S. degree in Chemistry (Shippensburg State College in
Pennsylvania) and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Analytical Chemistry (Iowa State
University).
Steve has been certified as a Quality Auditor by the American Society for
Quality since December 1999 and has served on the NELAC and then the TNI
Proficiency Testing Board since August 2005.

Chuck Runkle with Lachat Instruments will be demonstrating and training on the Lachat Instrument located at EARDC. Chuck graduated from
Eastern
Michigan
University
in 1972. He has been involved with Analytical Instrumentation ever since. He started his career as a Chemist with the University of Utah in their Research Institute and then moved into Technical Sales. Over the course of many years, Chuck has been to
Ohio
, back to
Utah
,
Florida
,
Pennsylvania
and finally in 1993 to
Austin
, TX where he reside’s today. In March of 2004, he accepted a position with Lachat Instruments, a Hach Company, and cover’s KS, MO, OK, AR, LA, MS & TX. Lachat is a leading supplier of Flow Injection Systems that also offer Radiometer Analytical automatic titrators and have recently introduced a line of TOCs. Deen Johnson
Summary
Deen Johnson has
a BS in Invertabrate Biology and MS in Environmental Chemistry from
Stephen F. Austin State University.
Deen has worked as a Lab Manager for
3 years with Northrop Services,Inc. in Houston, Tx. in the late 70's. Most
of Deen's work experience is 27 yrs. in the Sales and Marketing of
Analytical Instrumentation. The bulk of that has been in Spectroscopy, 21
yrs selling and marketing AA,ICP, and ICP-MS. he has a vast knowledge of
the Environmental market and has served on ASTM D-19 for the Analysis of
Water for over 13 years. He was honored with the receipt of the Max Hecht
Award of ASTM Committee D-19 in July 1998. He has worked extensively in
the the Environmental and Petroleum field over the last 30 yrs.

Terry Smith
with the Hach Co. will be presenting the latest EPA Methods Updates
from March 12th and relate them directly to their HACH products.
We (Josie) will also be
discussing GBRA’s recent NELAC Mock Audit as well as the Standard
Methods updates, the recent TNI Workshops and anything else related to
NELAC!!!! So bring some questions and some solutions……everyone will
be listening!

Dear Members,
I would like to take this time to say thanks to all that have helped and
participated in this years ALAC activities. Yearly attendance was
up. We have added a few new faces to our organization look
forward to seeing even more. Hopefully everyone is
comfortable with the new website and electronic newsletter. I
would like to remind all members if they have any suggestions,
complaints or even constructive criticism, all comments are welcomed.
